Please note that to use the SEARCH feature you must enter the full address, city and state for the map to locate your property to view the CIRCLE ICON identifying your water service line type. You can find the legend which provides the color codes used to indicate the line type in the upper right corner of the map page, click on the three (3) stacked bars to view it when on the inventory map. It is also listed below for your convenience.

Note the left side of the circle icon is the city section of the water service line, the right side of the circle icon is the customer section of the water service line. Each side is color coded to identify the water service line type, if known at this time. Below is the color code used on the viewer map.

Color code;

Grey – unknown service line material

Blue – copper or PVC service line material

Yellow – galvanized service line material

Red – lead service line material

The 2025 data collection is currently being processed, the viewer will be updated as the information is entered.

The water service line identification will continue during 2026 with the updated data being entered throughout the year. Upon the completion of the line identification pot-holing project the remaining identified water service line types will be updated in late December or early January of 2027. The water service line identification will continue until a complete inventory of the city’s water service line types are verified and entered.

Water service lines requiring replacement are lead lines and galvanized lines downstream of a lead line.

Lead service line identification can be on the customer side or on the city side.

Galvanized service line identification can be on the customer side or the city side.

Unknown service line identification indicates that the line type requires identification and can be on the customer side, and/or the city side.

The City of Shelby is required to mail notifications out annually for line types consisting of lead, galvanized and unknown to city water customers. This will continue until all water service line types are identified and then replaced.

The City of Shelby Water Treatment plant tests for lead levels in the city’s water distribution system annually with results returning below the EPA’s acceptable limits. Customers can monitor our water test results which are posted annually in the city’s Consumer Confidence Report, which is linked on the city website with copies available upon request from the Utilities Office, City Hall or the Water Treatment plant.
