Water Treatment

Shelby Water Treatment Plant

Shelby’s Water Treatment Plant is a surface water and Class 3 facility. The plant has capacity to treat 4 million gallons per day, but it currently treats an average of 1.2 million gallons a day. Raw water enters the plant from one of two reservoirs that have a combined capacity of 588 million gallons. The treated water is filtered through rapid sand filters to a clearwell with the capacity of 1 million gallons. The water is then pumped into the distribution system, which includes two elevated towers (total capacity of 1 million gallons). Water testing is completed every two hours. All operators are Ohio EPA lab certified to test the drinking water going out to the distribution system.
